Portsmouth
The main two features of this historic village within the city are the penitentiaries and the Portsmouth Olympic Harbour. The harbor was extensively renovated in preparation for the sailing events of the 1976 Olympic Games. Since then, the harbor has hosted numerous sailing competitions.
Initially an early settlement on Hatter's Bay, the village grew in the 1830's with the influx of workers hired to build the penitentiary. Later, the village thrived from quarrying, shipping, ship-building, brewing, and lumber milling. The village was incorporated in 1858, and annexed to the City of Kingston in 1952.
