Along the K&P 1980
Incorporated in 1871, the Kingston and Pembroke Railway was intended to operate between Kingston and Pembroke. By 1884, they had built 180km of track northward to Renfrew. But since the Canada Central Railway had by then already built a line to Pembroke, it made little sense to complete the entire planned K&P line.
At the southern end of the line, tracks reached into the Kingston waterfront. But as industries left the waterfront, the tracks gradually receded. In May 1980, I took a walk along the remaining tracks of the K&P along the Cataraqui River and took some pictures. This area has been redeveloped, and so these photos offer a glimpse of the last gasps of a significant industrial area of Kingston.
