Chutes Coulonge
Logging was and still is an important activity in much of the Ottawa River watershed. Originally, logs were floated downstream to the saw mills. In order to protect the logs, they had to be redirected around waterfalls. At the scenic Chutes Coulonge, you can still see a concrete log chute.
Chutes Coulonge can be reached by driving through Pembroke. Cross the Ottawa River, follow Highway 148, and turn left at Ch. du Bois-Franc. It's about a half hour drive east of Pembroke. (While we were there, we forgot to visit a covered bridge nearby!)
