Cobden Fair

When visiting the Ottawa Valley, be sure to visit a country fair. We arrived in time for the last day of the fair in Cobden, at the end of August. It was a dreary overcast day, but we still enjoyed the few midway rides, as well as a pulling competition for horses.

The pulling competition was fun to watch. Teams of horses had to pull a sled loaded with ever heavier loads across a fixed distance. At first, the loads were easy for all the teams to pull. But as the concrete was piled on, teams began to be eliminated. The last team left won.

Cobden is a farming community about halfway between Pembroke and Renfrew along Highway 17.
