Union Station
Thousands of office workers arrive downtown each day through Union Station. During morning rush hour, hordes of eager workers rush northward from Union Station through the underground concourses to their offices. In the afternoon, the rush runs southward towards the station. During those times, it is best not to try to go against the flow.
Across the street to the right, you can see the twin towers of the Royal Bank plaza, with their gold-tinged windows. Since the construction of these towers, the value of the gold in the glass has increased by several million dollars.
Toronto is a popular city for movie-makers. Union Station is where many scenes of the movie "The Silver Streak" were shot. In the finale of that movie, a speeding locomotive crashed through the wall into the main lobby.

The following tables list the arrivals and departures of the trains you're likely to see east and west of Union Station. Although the schedules are more or less accurate as of June 2008, I make no guarantees as to the accuracy of this information. Check with the railway for more detailed information.

The VIA train at the right is the "Canadian", bound for Vancouver.
West
Following the Skywalk west of Union Station leads you to the best spots for train watching. There are a number of bridges over the tracks offering a good view of rail movements. You can often see other railroad fans taking pictures from these spots.
- Enclosed pedestrian bridge immediately west of the station, part of the Skywalk.
- Enclosed pedestrian bridge joining north and south halls of the Toronto Convention Centre.
- Enclosed and open pedestrian bridges at the foot of John Street.
- Blue Jays Way bridge.
- Spadina Avenue bridge.
- Bathurst Street bridge.
Also note that at the end of the morning rush and the beginning of the afternoon rush, you are likely to see movements of GO trains between Union Station and the seven-track storage yard past Spadina Avenue.

East
There are few good public places for viewing trains east of Union Station since there are no bridges over the tracks and the tracks are above grade. One possible spot is the roof of a public parking garage south of the St. Lawrence Market. Another spot is from the Distillery District.
