View from the Summit of the Jenner

June 1991, Schönau am Königsee, Germany

The Jenner rises 1874m above sea level, or 1272m above the surface of the Königsee.

Directly below the Jenner is the Königsee. At the end of the lake are the boat docks. In the valley are the chalets catering to the many tourists who visit this area. This photo was taken in late afternoon, when most of the lake is now shaded by the Watzmann immediately to the west. The town of Berchtesgaden is outside the photo to the right.

There are several ways to get to this place. The easiest is to take the cable lift, and then climb a short distance from the mountain station.

At the top, I overheard one person who pointed at the Kehlsteinhaus on top of the next mountain over to the north-east and who said (in German), "Look, that's his house". She was, of course, referring to Adolf Hitler, for whom that chalet was built.
