Watzmann![]() June 1989, Berchtesgaden, Germany In olden times, King Watzmann ruled the Berchtesgaden land. Because of his cruelty, he and his seven children were greatly feared. He was violent against man and animal, and he wantonly destroyed towns and villages in his domain. As a result, they earned the wrath of the Gods, who turned them into stone. Since then, the Watzmann has been a distinctive landmark of the Berchtesgaden region. The large peak to the right (2714m) is the king, the peak on the left (2307m) is his queen. Their seven children can be seen between and around them. Other pictures like this one can be found at Berchtesgaden. |
