Spitaltor August 1986, Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Germany The Spitaltor is the southern-most entrance to the Old Town. The massive ramparts, built in the 16th Century, are open to the public, and you can see a couple of cannons inside. During one visit, I saw a large truck try to enter the Old Town at the Spitaltor. The driver quickly recognized that he wasn't going to get through the narrow gate, but not before blocking traffic coming and going. He tried backing up. The motorist behind him honked his horn furiously, but the truck driver kept backing up, finally colliding with the car. This only served to illustrate well that it's best to keep your car outside the Old Town, unless you really know what you're doing. Other pictures like this one can be found at Rothenburg o.d.
