Stadtmauer August 1986, Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Germany The original second wall surrounds all of the Old Town. The earlier inner wall no longer remains, except for a few towers like the Weisser Turm and the Markusturm. Substantial portions of the wall were severely damaged during the Second World War, and restoration continued into the 1990's. As you walk along the top of the wall, you can see hundreds of plaques naming significant donors to the restoration project. The photo shows the stretch of wall just east of the Klingentor.
