Würzburg

D-rs-Wuerzburg.jpeg

August 1986, Würzburg, Germany

Würzburg has many of the elements of the typical mid-sized German city: A royal palace, a fortress overlooking the city, a river crossed by a picturesque stone bridge, and a large cathedral.

In this photo, the Residenz palace is at the left. The palace was severely damaged during the war, but much of it has been restored at great expense. In the distance, on a hill across the Main, is the Festung Marienberg. The fortress not only has a great view of the city, but also contains a couple of museums worth visiting.

The road to the south leads to Rothenburg ob der Tauber.
