Schloß Lichtenstein

Lichtenstein.jpeg

June 1991, Schloß Lichtenstein, near Reutlingen, Germany

This is one of my favorite castles in Germany. It is a small castle with in impressive view of the valley below. In more recent centuries, this castle was used primarily as a hunting lodge.

This castle survived the Second World War, but the structure was damaged by artillery fire. As a result, visitors are not allowed to climb to the top of the tower. (The American army was unable to explain why this castle was considered an important target!)
