Linderhof

Linderhof.jpeg

June 1989, Schloß Linderhof, near Oberammergau, Germany

Schloß Linderhof is one of three castles built during the 19th century by the "mad" King Ludwig II of Bavaria. Unlike the others, he actually lived in this one. Linderhof consists of two floors, the upper one was Ludwigs private quarters, the lower was used by the servants. He was so much of a loner that the servants brought him his meals by raising the dining table through a hole in the floor!

Other attractions on the grounds include a byzantine style pavillion and a grotto where he could view private productions of Wagner operas.

His other castles were Schloß Neuschwanstein and Schloß Herrenchiemsee.
