Hôtel de Ville de Montréal Montréal, Québec, Canada The city hall building in Vieux Montréal opened for business in 1878 replacing the old building that now houses the Bonsecours Market. The building survived a fire in 1922. The balcony of city hall is where French president Charles de Gaulle spoke those famous words: "Vive le Québec libre!" in 1967.
