Progress?![]() Toronto, Ontario, Canada. August 2002. Urban art at the corner of Kingston Road and St Clair Avenue East. Although urban mural art has become quite common in many cities, this is one of the best in the series "Mural Routes", which documents the history of Kingston Road through Scarborough. Most of the murals in this series can be found to the west, in the community of Cliffside. This particular mural, entitled "In the way of progress", painted by Jennifer and Jamie Richards in 1996, constrasts in a stark manner the modern day traffic on Kingston Road. In the past, the traffic on Kingston Road was held up by a cow. In the present, progress is impeded by the sheer volume of traffic. Sadly, streetcars no longer run this far along Kingston Road. Other pictures like this one can be found at Scarborough Album. |
