Ontario Has A New Trillium!Category: Politics If you look closely at Ontario government print ads these days, you'll notice something different, a progressive new trillium logo. The new design replaces that stodgy, old logo that was introduced more than forty years ago.
Take a good close look at this logo. It retains the trillium, which is the official flower of the province. But the logo also contains three abstract people with out-stretched arms. This is a very positive design showing the optimistic and open nature of the people of Ontario. Was a new logo absolutely necessary? No, not really. However, now that we have it, it does make the old logo look very old-fashioned and out of date. I think the provincial government made a good decision in commissioning a logo replacement. But now, Conservative party leader John Tory is raising a big stink over the issue, saying the money could have been better spent elsewhere. As if $219,000 could make any significant difference in improving health care or education! He's also trying to make us believe that the new logo is somehow similar to the logo of the Liberal party. Yeah, no kidding! Has he even seen the Liberal party logo? It's nothing similar. Tory wants us to believe that the new logo is a "partisan-based waste of taxpayers money". If anyone is engaged in partisan politics, it's Tory. If anyone is likely to associate the new logo with the ruling Liberal party, it would only be because Tory is making such a big deal about it for his own political ambitions. Why is Tory making such a big deal over such a trivial issue? Why isn't he pushing for more funding improvements for education and health care instead?
