2005/06 Wrap-UpCategory: Bowling We finished the 2005/06 season a couple of weeks ago, and I'd like to mention a few highlights of the year. For me, as I mentioned before, I started out the season well below where I felt I should be. But I made it my goal to advance at least one position in the overall standings each week, and I eventually pulled myself back to an average in the 170's. More specifically, I made it back to an average of 173.7, more or less the same as my end of season average last year. Other stats are interesting too. I won prize money in the round-robin tournament and the doubles tournament. I won the second game pot three times, and once took the strike fund pot. In addition, my team placed first in the playoffs. Speaking of the playoffs, it's interesting how we made it into the championship group for the playoffs. During the first series, each week we either won all three games or we lost all three. At the end of the series, we managed to eke out a small lead over the others. One more memorable moment: Although you can occasionally see a wild shot bounce from the gutter into the neighboring lane, one week late in the season I saw a wild ball go into the gutter, bounce off a pillar back onto the lane, and punch just the head pin. After looking stunned for a few seconds in awe, they decided to score it as a gutter ball rather than a head pin. Considering that I've only seen that kind of thing happen just once during the past decade, and that bowlers in my league have collectively thrown about a million balls during that time, that shot could genuinely be described as a "one in a million" shot!
