June, 2001. Onaping Falls, Ontario, Canada.
Plaque near the falls:
SPRING ON THE ONAPING RIVER
1882 - 1974
In 1953 A.Y. Jackson, one of the founding members of the "Group of Seven", visited this site and painted "Spring on the Onaping River".
Two years later the painting was purchased by a group of students and placed in the Sudbury Secondary School. Shortly after Jackson's death in April of 1974 the painting was stolen and has not been recovered.
This plaque is erected by the Town of Onaping Falls with the assistance of the Ministry of Culture and Communications commemorating "Spring on the Onaping River" and the many other works created by A.Y. Jackson.
Onaping Falls was used as a location for the filming of the movie "Men With Brooms".
