Western Beaches

Unlike its eastern cousin, the Western Beaches, are separated from the city by several busy transportation corridors. Local residents have to cross the Queensway, the CN main line, Lakeshore Blvd., and the Gardiner Expressway to get to the shore of Humber Bay.

QEW Monument.
The QEW Monument marks the former start of the Queen Elizabeth Way, one of the first divided highways in Ontario. After the province downloaded responsibity for many provincial roads, the city of Toronto assumed responsibility for the stretch of the QEW within Toronto, and so the QEW now officially starts about 10km to the west.
According to one story, President Roosevelt and his wife were impressed seeing lamp posts with decorative initials "ER" along the highway. But those initials stand for "Elizabeth Regina", not "Eleanor Roosevelt".
