Kingston, Ontario, Canada
The "Spirit of Sir John A." has been a feature of the Kingston waterfront since the late 60's. Unfortunately, like other old locomotives put out on display in urban parks, this has seen its share of abuse. Since this photo was taken, the locomitive has been restored, and placed on a new track immediately south of its former location.
The redevelopment of this park was a centennial project. Originally a park in the late 1800's, it was quickly redeveloped into a railroad station, the southern terminus of the Kingston and Pembroke railroad. By the 1960's, however, industry along Kingston's waterfront was well into decline and plans were made to revitalize it.
