Do you enjoy playing ukulele? Do you live in the Kingston, Ontario, area? Then join us for our regular ukulele jam!
Where is the jam?
We jam at the Collins Bay Legion, 4034 Bath Road, in Collins Bay. Enter via the side door, and look for us in the basement. There’s no cost for participating, but we encourage you to support the Legion by visiting the bar, or at least dropping a toonie into the tip jar.
During June and July, we usually hold our jams in City Park.
When is it?
The jam takes place on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month, except holidays. We start at 7:00pm, more or less. We usually finish about 9:30pm. We normally take a break from jamming during August.
Who can come?
Anyone who plays ukulele is welcome. All skill levels are welcome. Even if you’re a beginner, you’re welcome to join in.
What else should I bring (besides my ukulele)?
If you have a portable music stand, bring it along. I recommend getting a strong, sturdy music stand capable of holding a heavy 3-ring binder. (A music stand will come in handy anyways for your own practice.)
If you want to lead the group in a song, please bring copies so the rest of us can follow along. Lyrics with chord diagrams are preferred. (Chord diagrams on the side or bottom of the page is also acceptable.)
What happens at the jam?
We play ukulele and sing songs. We also share tips and techniques, and share our ukulele stories. If you want to perform a song solo, or lead the group in a song, you’ll have your chance. Consider this a good opportunity to practice your skills in front of a very supportive audience.
Often, we play songs from our favorites list. Click here to download a copy.
Sometimes we have a theme for the evening. But usually we do a song circle where everyone gets a chance to choose the song.
How did this come about?
In the summer of 2010, I moved from Toronto back to my hometown. In Toronto, I very much enjoyed playing ukulele at the Corktown Ukulele Jam. Picture, if you can, 60-70 ukulele players playing together in one room! Yes! There’s a lot of fun in jamming together on the ukulele! When we decided to make the move, I decided that Kingston should have a ukulele jam too.

What else should I know about the jam?
Like most other jams, GCEA is the preferred tuning. Baritone ukulele players are welcome, but be prepared to adjust your playing appropriately. If you want to bring song sheets for the group, understand that the preferred keys in GCEA tuning are C, D, G, and A.
